| VACUettes® are
self-filling, 7mm diameter ampoules.
Attached to the tip of each ampoule is a capillary pipet which is
calibrated to draw the correct volume of sample for one of four dilution
factors: 25X, 50X, 100X and 1000X. (See photo above.)
The VACUettes® Method. The ampoule
is held in a horizontal position while the capillary tip contacts the
sample. After the capillary pipet fills, it is immersed in a diluent
(usually distilled or deionized water) and the tip of the ampoule is snapped. The sample
and diluent are drawn into the ampoule where they're mixed with reagent.
The resulting color change can then be compared with liquid color
standards to quantify results.

Step 1. Hold the ampoule
horizontally and touch the tip of the capillary to the sample. The
capillary will fill automatically. |
Step 2. Fill the snap cup
with
diluent and immerse the entire ampoule/capillary tube assembly.
Snap the tip. The ampoule will fill
with the diluted sample. |
|
Step 3. A bubble of gas will
appear. Tilt the ampoule several times, allowing the bubble to travel
from end to end.
|
Step 4. When color develops,
quantify the results with
a color
comparator.
