Self-filling ampoules
for photometric analysis

Vacu-vials® offer the convenience and accuracy of the self-filling ampoule in a size designed specifically for photometric readout.  The filled ampoule functions as a half inch (13 mm) diameter cell which may be read in virtually any commercial spectrophotometer or colorimeter.

Vacu-vials® test kits contain 30 ampoules, sample cup, accessory solutions (when necessary), and instructions.

Vacu-vials® ampoules provide maximum simplicity and the accuracy of instrumental readout. Use them for a wide range of colorimetric analyses. Each ampoule is 13 mm in diameter with a tapered, prescored tip.  Reagents are vacuum sealed inside.

The Vacu-vials® Method
The analyst immerses the ampoule in the sample and snaps the tip. The correct volume of sample is drawn in by vacuum, and a small inert gas bubble remains. Sample and reagent are then mixed by tilting the ampoule so the bubble travels from end to end. In 2 minutes or less, the developed color may be measured using a CHEMetrics photometer or any spectrophotometer that will accept a 13mm cell.

HOW TO USE Vacu-vials®

SNAP

MIX

READ

Step 1. SNAP.  Fill the snap cup with your water sample, then snap the tip of a Vacu-vials® ampoule as shown in the diagram above.  Vacuum will cause it to fill instantly with sample fluid and mix with the pre-measured reagent inside.

Step 2.  MIX.  Mix the contents of the filled ampoule by tilting it up and down several times, each time allowing the small bubble inside to travel from end to end.

Step 3.  READ.  Insert the filled ampoule into the cell compartment of your instrument and read the result.
